ZIM strengthens Markdorf production site and creates capacity for further growth

Immenstaad, October 27, 2026 – The ZIM Aircraft Seating Group is consistently continuing its growth course and further expanding production capacity at its Markdorf site. With the expansion of pre-assembly and main assembly, the company has reached another important milestone. This puts ZIM in a position to reliably meet the rising demand for its Economy, Premium Economy and Business Class seats and to sustainably strengthen its competitiveness.

The expansion is part of a comprehensive build-out of the infrastructure in Markdorf. Just a few months ago, ZIM moved into a newly constructed lightweight-construction hall, significantly expanding capacity for its spare parts business. At the same time, the warehouse and the purchasing department relocated their activities from the main production building to an additional building in the immediate vicinity of the site.

20 percent more storage capacity for efficient operations
The new logistics hub offers ideal conditions for the delivery, registration and quality inspection of incoming parts. With a floor area of around 2,000 square meters, ZIM now has approximately 20 percent more storage capacity than before.
Around 40 employees process the incoming parts there every day and inspect them in line with ZIM's high quality standards. The clear separation of logistics and production improves material flows, creates additional transparency and ensures more efficient processes along the entire production chain.

More assembly capacity and consistent process optimization
The relocation of warehouse and purchasing activities freed up valuable space in the main production building. ZIM is using this space specifically to further expand assembly: the number of workstations in pre-assembly was increased from 17 to a total of 25. At the same time, the company was able to increase the number of production lines from seven to ten.

With these measures, ZIM significantly increases the flexibility and performance of its manufacturing. The additional capacity makes it possible to increase production volume in a targeted way, process orders more efficiently and deliver to customers worldwide even more reliably.

In parallel with the physical expansion, ZIM is continuously optimizing its production processes following the Lean approach. The company is also increasingly relying on digitalization to standardize processes, improve interfaces and make decisions even faster based on up-to-date data.
