Immenstaad, 5 May 2022 – The ZP610 from ZIM Aircraft Seating GmbH has reached the final of the Crystal Cabin Award 2022. A jury of 27 aviation experts selected the Premium Economy seat as a finalist in the Passenger Comfort category. The Crystal Cabin Award is regarded as the leading international accolade for innovations in the aircraft cabin. The winners will be announced on 14 June 2022 at the Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg.
What convinced the jury
At the heart of the design is the fixed backrest shell. It clearly delimits each passenger's personal space: adjusting the backrest takes place within the passenger's own shell and does not affect the row behind. The adjustment system itself is fully mechanical and allows several seating and resting positions. Compared with electrically operated solutions, it is lighter, requires less maintenance and is more robust in operation. Crucially, this gain in comfort is achieved without additional seat pitch, and the airline's cabin capacity remains unchanged.
Not a debut at the Crystal Cabin Awards
This is not ZIM's first nomination. The company has already received an award for an Economy seat in the Passenger Comfort Hardware category. For an independent manufacturer, repeated presence in a field dominated by the large cabin groups is a solid indication of its own development expertise.
Recognition in the year of the series ramp-up
The nomination comes in the year in which the ZP610 enters scheduled service. SWISS introduced the seat in February 2022 as the first airline in the Lufthansa Group, and the Lufthansa Group had placed a major order in January. The jury's assessment thus confirms a product that is proving itself in the cabin at the same time.
Update: second place in the category
At the award ceremony on 14 June 2022, the ZP610 took second place in its category.
