Immenstaad at Lake Constance/Hamburg, 14 June 2022

ZIM Aircraft Seating, known for the world’s leading development, design and manufacture of aircraft seats, will be exhibiting at this year’s Aircraft Interior Expo from 14th to 16th June in Hamburg (hall 6, booth B30) and will present a further developed and optimized product range as well as a new economy class seat, the ZIMPhoenix.

ZIM Aircraft Seating has acquired the ZIMPhoenix developed by the Czech development company Idea Air and at the same time agreed on a development cooperation with the company. Since 2017, an international project team of suppliers from the aerospace industry has been working at Idea Air on the development of innovative economy seats. The result is the ZIMPhoenix. As part of the agreed development cooperation, the designers and engineers of ZIM Aircraft Seating and Idea Air will continue to work together in the future on the development of even more sustainable seating solutions for commercial aviation.

The ZIMPhoenix is an absolute trade fair novelty and fits perfectly into ZIM Aircraft Seatings product portfolio. The ZIMPhoenix is designed for short to medium haul flights and is aimed at the single aisle and narrow body aircraft market. Based on innovative solutions, the weight of the seat is around 20 percent below the industry standard. The new development is a further contribution of ZIM Aircraft Seating to more sustainability and allows airlines to save considerable fuel in operation.

The ZIMPhoenix not only impresses with its lightweight construction: Its design is sophisticated and was developed in cooperation with the international design and marketing agency PriestmanGoode. The ergonomic and space-saving construction of the new seat also meets the latest requirements for comfort and safety. The ZIMPhoenix consists of only a few, high-quality components which extends its working life and reduces maintenance costs. The primary structure also enables the integration of further options as well as further application possibilities to offer customers an interesting product portfolio.

“With the ZIMPhoenix, we are again at the forefront of innovation and we demonstrate how creativity can always lead to new approaches. The seat is lighter than comparable products and meets all the criteria that customers expect today,” says Sven Achilles, CEO of ZIM Aircraft Seating. “The pandemic-related crisis in our industry also hit us hard, but we recovered and are now back on track and on a dynamic growth path. At ZIM Aircraft Seating, we have always been committed to presenting sustainable solutions that significantly reduce the consumption of natural resources and CO2 emissions around the world. We are committed to invest heavily in research and development. With our newly established, dynamic, and innovative development department, we want to present new ideas as well as new approaches to improve the quality and efficiency of flying. As soon as the Covid crisis will have weakened, we expect a very steep ramp-up of the market that needs attention and we are actively preparing for it by expanding our team and get it ready for the job. Together with our shareholder AURELIUS, we are also exploring the market and partnerships that will bring us additional competitive advantages. It is and remains very exciting, and we are embracing the future!” continues Achilles.
